Had a good week. One Musky, a couple of BIG snakes (northern pike), a few hard fighting smallies and enough walleyes to have a walleye broil for my daughter's 46th birthday. And, ahh, a sunburned neck.

Lake Of The Woods is still the Best Danged Fishin' Hole (BDFH) on the planet.

Got pics of one of the snakes with my guide. Will post them later. :) :)

WB.

When I used to fish on the BASS circuit the was a saying if you caught a snake. "Your fishing to fast" of course instead of following that warning it was almost a religious requirement to catch one just to upset my fishing partner.

Sounds like a great trip. Family, Fishing and a safe return.

Bob

Well, I did get one decent photo.

This is guide Allen Edman with a decent "snake".

Allen and his brother, Scott, grew up on LOTW and operate Angling Adventures Guiding Service out of Angle Inlet.

www.walleyewalleye.com

Hi, Derwood.

I ate walleye about 4 times while I was there and brought a legal limit (6) back with me.

The only fish I kill are walleye, crappies, bluegill and channel cat. Those I eat.

Everything else gets released. :)

Nice fishing, JB! I was wondering what
the best way was to prepare channel cats
for cooking. I've mostly fished for trout and
kokanee salmon, but have recently gotten
into checking out the warm water lakes in NM.
My in-laws really like channel cats, but not sure how to cook. Thanks, MB

Howdy, Mountainboy.

Filet the catfish.

To 1 cup of coarse yellow cornmeal add salt, pepper and garlic powder to taste.

Wash the filets then toss them in a 1 gal ziplock bag with the cornmeal.

You can then fry them. I use a George Forman grill.

YUM! :)

Welcome Back JB,

You can also do the corn meal thing and Deep Fry them Southern Style. When the filets start to float and are golden brown they are ready :D Also Deep Fry some TATERS (I like the stake cut style)and hushpuppies. ummmm  Have some cold slaw, and chuncks of onion if you like, and a big-ol glass of Ice tea.

:D A Good-ol Southern Catfish Fry :D

A deepfrying secret: Half of a hole onion in the frying oil will help keep the oil from burning. Not catching on fire but geting a bad burned taste. :D
