I am trading my Wellcraft V20 for a javelin bass boat 396XFD, with a Evenrude 150HP. I have been looking online and I cannot find any info on this boat? Looks like it was first made in 1989 with the option of a 175HP motor. But other than that, nothing! Has anyone here owned one or have any info on it? I just want as much info as i can before I make the trade. Any info would be appreciated.

Javelin and Stratos used to be made here in Tennessee. I think they were eventually sucked into OMC ... then of course, OMC went away. They haven't been made in a while.

You won't find much about the hulls online. Boat manufacturers didn't publish manuals for the boats.

Any fiberglass boat from 1989 will need to be checked for waterlogged foam and rotten structural wood

Be prepared for some work, at that age, fiberglass boats are known to require serious work. If not a garage queen its entire life, I would look for newer..

Nothing pops up for a 1989 Javelin 396XFD. I just looking for general info on that boat. Can you send me the site info that you found? Found info on 1990 and up but nothing on 1989.

What kind of info are you looking to find ???

The boat was made before there was the internet, so don't expect to find much out there.

Specifically I was looking for the Gas tank capacity. The Boat that I am looking at does not have a gas tank. He has it rigged to a 5 gal plastic gas container. He believes it would of been a 21 gal tank.

Can you see where the tank goes? I'm guessing you don't have to cut to access it (I don't think you did on those boats).

Quick search on the 396 said 25 gallon tank. But if it'll fit in the space, and won't overload the boat (weight wise) - you can use any marine tank.

The tank behind the seats is an odd size and nothing out there close to the dims (70x7x12). Just going to find a big tank for the back of the boat where there is a lot of room.
But first I will need to clean up the mess of wires in the back. Micky moused the wiring and alot of the wiring has been cut. Starting to make heads and tails but there is a box where a lot of the wires come together, im guessing its the fuse box. I will include a picture and asking for some help in replacing it. If it can be upgraded?fuse box1.jpgfuse box2.jpg
