Re: It's a wonderful time of beer

Do you mean to tell me there is a different beer for every season, Swabbie!

Cheers to you, my friend!

Yes most definately. Except unfortunately you do not live in the land of four seasons.

I just might send you some holiday cheer. :D

I still owe you one or several.

Cheers to you too. :)

I went a little crazy and bought some cherry wheat tonight. It'll be ok I guess.

Best 'fruity' beer I've ever had was Redbach from Brewery Rodenbach. Kriek beer, very strong, tart cherry flavor. Like drinking a bottle of cherry pie. Sadly, they don't make it anymore.

Two of my favorites any time of year. :) Newcastle is one of my all time favorite beers.

For those of you that like newcastle brown (Newkie Brown) Give Manns Brown Ale a try if you can find it. I can't find it in Canada but always have a suitcase full brought over when friends and relatives visit from England or when I go for a visit I bring a suitcase full home with me.
Delicious in the can of bottle and even better if you can ever get it on tap. Not high in the alcohol content but the flavour is amazing. :D:cool:

Newcastle Brown is a favorite of mine too. It's available at the liquor store here but not in great quantities. I've never seen Mann's but I'll have a look next week. For those that like brown ales a couple of other I have found with really nice flavor is Amsterdam Nut Brown Ale and Neustadt 10W30 Brown Ale

Re: It's a wonderful time of beer

Found one yesterday I've never tried.
Snow Day Winter Ale by New Belgium Brewery in Fort Collins, Co.

I think all of us "northern" guys should chip in and ship some of this down to the "southern" guys so they can sit on the beach in 70 deg. weather in their "winter" attire and reaffirm what their missing. :D

In 2003, we had a massive 37-inch snowstorm over two days in Fort Collins. Everything shut down for a couple days ? no work, no school, no cars. The only way you could get around was by ski or toboggan. When we began brewing Snow Day, we looked to this one storm for inspiration. The dark characters of the malt bill reflect the dark stormy sky at the beginning of the snowfall. But on the third day, the sun broke through and everything was glorious! The name Snow Day evoked joyful freedom. Everyone remembers waiting for the school report as little kids. When you heard your school was closed, you suddenly had all day to play in the transformed, white landscape. Well, that?s the kind of emotion we put into this beer.

Pleasantly hoppy, Snow Day carries the subtle chocolate and caramel flavors of a new brewing malt known as Midnight Wheat. The Styrian Golding, Centennial and Cascade hops bring the backbone of hoppy bitterness to complement the roasty undertones. This beer is the deep garnet of a roasted walnut and presents a creamy tan head, floating artfully atop. Snow Day is bold and hoppy, drinkable and strong.
It reminds you to enjoy the unexpected.
Just the facts Ma'am...
ABV - 6.2%
IBU - 55
Calories - 190
Hops - Styrian Goldings, Centennial, Cascade
Malts - Pale, C-80, Midnight Wheat
OG - 17
TG - 2.35

Only that I don't often drink anything but Guinness, or occasionally Newcastle. Cherry wheat is a pretty big jump!

Liz-beer good.jpg
My fav is from Hood River Oregon -"Full Sail IPA"
hand crafted by a massive brew force of 47 people 017.jpg
I travel all over and always try the local brews- I prefeer IPAs- Amber Ales-
Word has it the on the MayFlower they hit the East coast looking for Virgina--but went North instead--ran out of Beer and the Capt. said" We're puttin' in right 'er!" Water was kept in wooden cask but after a few months would become stagnaint--Beer on the other hand was pastureized- so when the ran outta' beer it got serious.
MERRY CHRISTMAS !!!-Joe

Yeh....bigriver...How true!!!....But....I would bet a cold brew next to the fire...loved ones around me, snow falling, roads closed, home cooked food, boat winterized, children asleep....can be a wonderful thing!
