IT'S HOLIDAY BEER SEASON. :D:eek::D

I'm not a big flavored beer guy but I do enjoy sampling all the different beers that come out this time of year.

Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale

Shiner Holiday Cheer

Samuel Adams, Winter Lager, Holiday Porter, Cranberry Lambic, Old Fezziwig.

Anchor Steam, Chrismas Ale (different recipe every year)

And.... my all time favorite, Leinenkugels Fireside Nut Brown

Bring it on Old Man Winter, the woodstove is on "full cackle" I've got my favorite winter brew and a dash of good boubon on ice!!! :p

Post your favorites. :)

You mentioned my fave already, Old Fezziwig. Boulevard has a nice brew called Nutcracker Ale. Good stuff.

Some towns in Germany have a Christmas Double Dark Bock beer that will knock your socks off.

Ah, beer thread. I may be here all night.

Well, you mentioned Christmas Ale and I've had a couple of pretty good ones recently.

The first is Bell's Christmas Ale, a very tasty brew. I brought a sixer of this to my family Christmas gathering (Dec 3 this year) as I am the designated "interesting beer provider". Everyone who tried it was very enthusiastic and these are folks who normally drink Busch Light. I was very fortunate to get one bottle for myself. Well, mostly, I had to share a few sips.

The other is Breckinridge Christmas Ale. Tastewise it is remarkably similar to Bell's, but has the added advantage of 7.4% ABV which leads to a nice buzz.

The last couple of months I've been hitting the Oktoberfests pretty hard, in between my standard selections. I won't bother with brands (except by request) because they're all good. Some are a little better than others, but it seems like nobody messes up an Ocktoberfest. Same with Summerfest, actually. Or Zommerfest, as some call it. I've tried several, and all were good (IMO).

For a special beer, try this: Last week I was at my local HyVee drug store, which happens to have a large and comprehensive liquor store attached, and was checking out the mix-a-six opportunities. They had some interesting choices but in particular, a Bell's Java Stout, a brew that had intrigued me, but the $15 per six price had held me back. Sad to say this is likely a new addiction since this is possibly the best beer I've ever had. I'll wait til I've downed a full sixer to make final judgement, but it was pretty darn good.

Swabber started off with SN's Celebration Ale to which I will give an enthusiastic second. Good stuff.

Oh sure, while I'm off composing, people start talking about Bock and DoppleBock. That's the NEXT season, guys. Not that you can't drink them now, of course. You just can't talk about them now. The rules are, you can only talk about a beer in its season. Or something like that.

Speaking of DoppleBock, ever try Spaten Optimator? Pretty smooth.

The craft beer craze has exploded here. The coolers at all the grocery stores have 100+ choices and more added all the time. It's overwhelming just to pick one occasionally when i'm in the mood for something different, But I vow to try them all!!! One of many local brewers is Aviator, They make about 9 beers currently and their business is booming. They have a small bar and also sell kegs and "growlers", glass gallon jugs that they will refill for a discount when you buy the bottle. It's named Aviator because the owner, a brewers son, started his brewery in an empty hanger at a small local grass strip airport.

Jigngrub, Beer has come along way in recent years. I see brews w 6 to 11 percent ABV. The stronger beers of all kinds taste better to me:eek:. and have more bang for the buck, which is a good thing, none of them are cheap!! I think you might enjoy some of them;)

It's tough to find a truly "bad" beer. Enjoy everyone. I will be trying a few seasonal beers myself.
