i know this belongs in the force forum, but getting little help. ready to part out. it's an '89 50hp marine power, no serial number that i can find, block #K123057 , flywheel #3000A , Coils #380.. carb #684061. need starter, coils, power pack, impeller, for beginners. compression dry,by rope 78 each cylinder. came on a boat i just bought. not finding many resourses. do i part it out, also the swivel is stuck, can't budge, thought it was the cable. got hull and trailer cheap enough i can part it. but i hate to give up. got a lead on a Merc 70hp but no info yet.

You know the compression will come up some when it's hot, don't know if it will come up enough though. The rings could be siezed causing the low compression.

Man, I don't know how much I would be putting into those parts for that though. You did get a great deal on a nice hull, you may be surprised on how much you get for the parts, maybe enough to put a big dent in that 70HP Merc that you CAN find parts for.

On another note, have you tried a boat junkyard (sorry marine salvage) for the needed parts? Sometimes the hard-to-find stuff around here is like gold to those guys, and you have to really be a good negotiater to get a reasonable deal.

That's probably the best thing. I'm sure you will feel more comfortable knowing you are being pushed around the water by a Merc!
