Hello all, Ive got a 30 HP Evinrude TJ30ELECD ive been fighting with for a while. I took it to the boat shop. They put a carb on it the first time, called it good and had me pick it up. The boat didn't run well. I took it back , the second time the put a fuel pump on it tuned it and said it was good again. I took it out and it ran well until it heated up. It would not fire up at all with or w/o choke once shut off. I took it out a second time, same behaviour , it ran fine from cold start but would not start once shut off after about 5 min of runtime. The engine will not fire at all now. It just sputters whey primed from the choke. The shop is too busy to take a look at it. I did replace the coil packs which did not help. Compression is 120lbs at both cylinders. The Impeller was changed as well and pumps water just fine. any feedback is appreciated.

Just to be clear your not using the primer to start after its warm correct?
You really should only need it for cold starts.

Flywheel key checked ?----Does it still have the powerpack under the flywheel ?----Does spark jump a gap of 3/8" or more on both leads ?-----Does primer bulb go hard ?----Any signs of melted wiring ?

Just because it pumps water doesn't mean it's flowing around the engine. Sounds like an overheat...do not run this motor until you find out what's wrong. These are easy motors to work on.

There are " known issues " with the UFI ignition unit.----If you answer questions / provide information you can sort this motor out in no time.

Yes, Igniton pack is there. no signs of melted wiring. Primer bulb does stay hard. I'll have to check the spark and report back. I have not checked the Flywheel key.

There were issues with wires chafing under the powerpack.----Find the kit to remedy that issue.

Here's my 1985 right after I put a new fuel pump in it ...there's a service bulletin on my year to run the timing up 1/4 to 1/2 past the marks before the carbs open when doing the linc and sync....used to cough at going from idle to wot.
