Civilization happened.<br /><br />It is as ridiculous on one side as it can be on the other.<br /><br />In Ontario, the buzzword by some environmental groups was for awhile returning the north to a "pre-settlement" condition, meaning pre-European settlement.<br /><br />The problem is, we are settled, and those settlers need services. The goal needs to be sustainable development and sustainable services. That requires management (and yes, taxes).<br /><br />There is certainly room for debate over what form those services take, but not whether some level of services are not required.

I agree with Dogsdad<br /><br />Lawyers + Greed + Power = our politicians & government. Doesn't seem like a government of "We the People" anymore, but "We the Lawyers of the United States". There needs more diversity of professions in our govenment of our own peers. Not just one profession that is totally about law. We need people with more Common Sense of all lifestyles.<br /><br />BTW,,,,Bed Tax needs to be added to the list as well.

Government size increased along with government subsidized programs not in existence back then. Just think how well we’d have it if we truly “got what we paid for” from our government????

Dogsdad, You might want to check the number of lawyers in the legislature and government. Not many of the PI lawyers you hate so much. You see Corporations are much stronger and have pushed the voice of the people out of power.

Fwiw, the income tax we all know and love so dearly was invented by Democrats (aka communists) and slammed down the people’s throats by the Republicans (aka Democrats).

When the first income tax was sent out to the people, the Congress chortled confidently that "all good citizen will willingly and cheerfully support and sustain this, the fairest and cheapest of all taxes." That was the cute little monkey part. After all, the first tax ranged from merely 1% on the first $20,000 of taxable income and was only 7% on incomes above $500,000. Who could complain?(Ed. note: In 1994 "dollars" that $20K is now over $250K and the $500K is today over $6 million!)
