There's several times as many people, cars, trucks, planes as there were 40 years ago. But the pollution is the fault of the coal-fired power plants that burn the same amount of coal they burned 40 years ago. Go figure.

The problem is not so much the taxes. Since you say they're the same as 100 years ago, the problem's with the greed and spending habits.

He said that these taxes didnt exist 100 years ago. Which I recon is true, But in 1918 the the tax rate for people making over $250,000 was 96%

Re: Isn't this amazing...........

Sorry, I mis-read. Some of these taxes did, in fact, exist. The telephone surcharge tax came into existence in 1898 to finance the Spanish-American War. Only thing, very few had telephones in 1898. We're still paying that tax today.

Again, sorry I jumped so quick. Too much coffee this AM I guess.

HC, how many people made $250,000 dollars a year in 1918, Rockefeller, Ford, Vanderbilts & the like....
I would love to see the real #'s for wage earners from that era.....
I'd be willing to bet that the # would be less than 1% of 1%.....
Boom, you forgot Seattle monorail tax, but that goes away in August & been paying on it for 3 years not a bit of it was built.......
& Regional Transit tax, but at least they are building it......JK
BTW, I'm sure ten grand was a comfortable living wage in 1918.....
