Re: Is this transom crack a problem?
Do you really think that's what did it? I'm debating whether to get one or not. My boat was trailered for 30 years without one, and now I'm having the transom replaced, but there was never any visible exterior damage like this.
A transom saver actually imparts more force into a transom than letting engine ride on factory trailing brackets. Every time you hit a pothole, curb, or bump in road the trailer load is transfered to trailer frame and saver. When Joe Reeves(personal friend) owned Hydra-Sports they had problems with "stress cracks" in transoms, the fix was to let top cap float on transom and seal and install a cosmetic aluminum "L" bracket. This is the reason hardly any of the newer boats use a saver anymore. Think about it... which applys more stress to a transom....... a 400 lb motor riding on factory transom bracket down the road or a 400 lb motor try to lift a 2500lb boat by transom? Smoke you own that torque-shift in avatar?
