Hello,

I can buy this little fellow, i do like the looks of it and could use it for a little boat for the kids - just wondering if this is a good motor or is it a known problem item? the seller informs that lower unit must come off since the cooling pipe is not correctly mounted - my question is if this would be a difficult repair on this machine? Still possible to get spare parts?

Anybody any suggestion about the approximate year for this 4 hp/2 cylinder motor?

thx.

It looks more like a 3 hp with a long shaft. Can you get a model # ??

thats a fine little motor! easy to get parts, and easy to work on. ( if it passes a health check). it is a longshaft tho.

That looks a lot like a picture I was shown today... well kinda...

Definitely love the vintage motors. Hopefully it's in good shape for ya! :)

Will idle like a sewing machine.

Not sure how the owner knows for certain the water tube is not lined up. Did he just do the water pump, mess up then give up on it? Seems strange.

They are not difficult to do, you can pull the powerhead in minutes.

here is another pic of the motor, a yachtwin - i think i just buy this one if the price will be decent (what would be decent?) and work on it to learn more - got kind of hooked on working with these outboards.

compression test first! then try to work on a $$ amount. if compression is good, id be a buyer in my locale at $100....it does look good cosmetically.

As said above, the compression test. Then check the L/U oil for any water.

I agree with Racerone, cowl is a '65 anyways.

Price would depend on mechanical condition. It is nice cosmetically.

If it were fully tuned, and ready to go, it would go for about 350 in my area. The way it is, not running, 100 bucks seems fair as mentioned above.

You wont get huge numbers on the 3hp motors, but somewhere in the 75 to 95 psi range. Should be equal between cylinders.

jmo, but thats a tough question, you can go out and buy three identical compression testers from hf, po, etc and all three could give somewhat different results. bottom line, and jmo, if you get 60 psi on both, +/- 5 % on that little motor, it could be a keeper, numbers around the 80/90 psi range are real good. but do have a look at the head for signs of an overheat, paint will be discolored. if thats the case, all isnt lost if compression is low, could be a bad head gasket. but at that point its " ya pay yer money, ya take yer chances!". again, jmo.
