Is This Normal? Merc 3.0 alpha one gen two 2009

Hey everyone, last season I noticed my lower unit gear lube was draining fast, so I change the lower unit oil. The oil was milky and clearly had water in it, once I pumped new oil in it started leaking from the weep holes and water intake in on the bottom of the lower.

I then changed the impeller and seals, removed the upper and replaced the seals and then this is what the bellows looked like.

Can anyone confirm that this is normal or is this an issue? There was no rust all of the orange is glue from the previous owner, there was traces of water. (Which can’t be good).

I put it all back together with all new seals and lower unit oil is still draining quick. Any ideas??

Looks green goop to me in the pics, it shouldn't be there. Also the gimble bearing don't look good. It should turn smooth with your fingers, no rough spots. Back to your question, you stated you changed the seals, did you change all of them including the shift shaft seal?

Did you do a pressure test before pulling it apart to see which seals were leaking? And a pressure test after the job to be sure it sealed up properly?

Thank you, this was my first time pulling everything apart so with negligence I didn’t test the gimble bearing to see if it was spinning smooth, I did change the shift shaft seal.

Hey Chris, unfortunately no. I should have but I thought originally it was a impeller issue and as I dug deeper It got worse.

Do you have the res bottle for the drive?
I then changed the impeller and seals,So you changed all the seals? including the one below the waterpump impeller?but did you check the shift shaft seal?
Green oil in the bellow may be the inputshaft seal
leaking from intake holes usually is the driveshaft lower seal
leaking from the front of the lower usually is the shift shaft seal or plastic housing

Pull the drive, drain it and do a pressure test...

Upper shift Shaft Seal (in the bell housing) or lower shift Shaft Seal (in the gear housing)?
