Great info guys, it does look like a crack to me hence the question. I have done a compression test before the strip done both cylinders 125. The head gasket blew a couple of year ago due to a fault in the casting in the head. Few minutes with a belt sanderand all good . Then one one trip out to the reef I picked up a plastic bag over the intake and then a bearing knock began. Ultimately the water getting in because of the gasket failure on the lower cylinder caused the heat of the restricted water pick up a year later wrecked the bearing.
Its most likely that the head is not cracked all the way through. If it was then yes it would be cleaner. There's very little evidence of recent water in the block. I've seen a few blocks that have had water get in or engines that have been sunk, even for a few hours. All components are rusty or discolored. Mine is good.
I'm thinking that the cost of a new head might be a cheap insurance.
Thanks for your replies
