Is this good advice?

Hello:
Being an auto mechanic who is new to the boating industry I visited my local Yamaha dealer and picked up fuel stabilizer, fuel additive, and fogging oil. I asked the dealer for the best way to fog the motor (2006 Yamaha F150TXR) and he's reply was to remove the fuel filter's bowl (the one located on the motor) fill it with fogging oil, and run the engine. Then remove the plugs and spray fogging oil generously into the cylinders, crank the motor, and repeat once more. When asked why he said because it's fuel injected and to introduce the fogging oil downstream of the intake manifold (avoiding sensors) and ease. He then ended the conversation. This approach sounds reasonable to me, what do you think? Thanks

Re: Is this good advice?

sounds like your dealer spokesman is an idiot or looking for spring work.
being an auto tech, how much experience do you have setting up a machine for long term storage? ( over 30 days)?

I have no experience setting up machines for long term storage. This is why I asked people in the trade! I'll drop the change for a shop service manual and figure it out, THANKS BRO!

Re: Is this good advice?

its NOT in the service manual.
its in the minds of us folks that have to do this on the same machines year after year and make it go next spring.
look at the to fog or not to fog F150 post.
lots of things ae different from when I worked as an automotive tech and working for the past 25 years as a marine tech.
in the auto world it was rare to work on stuff that only ran 10 times,or less, per year.
it was also rare to work on engines that got turned 70* every use.
I will tell you on the 06 F150.
pay attenton to the sound of the engine at idle.
balancer failures were common.
if it starts sounding kinda like a washing machine at idle quit and let me know.
