Hi I am going to test drive a 1988 Bayliner Olympic Edition with 305 cobra outdrive engine with 488 hours. Says interior perfect (pictures seem to confirm this). Comes with boat cover and canvas.

Anybody know anything about this Olympic Edition? He is asking $3300 is this a fair price for this boat if everything is legit?

Thanks for the help.

That price is pretty high for a 21 year old boat with an obsolete drive system.

it has the 305 in it, while most that size have 4 or 6 cylinders. If the interior is perfect and it runs good, thats a steal. that boat here would go for about $4000. Of course, offer less, u should be able to get it for at least 2900 or 3000. I dont know what the Olympic edition is though.

okay, i found an olympic edition for sale in WA for 3300. different paint scheme, it has a driver side heater, which would be nice, and it has a 350...sounds like it would be a good buy, not sure if thats the one in question or not though.

This is the same boat actually. He misprinted the engine size. It is a 5.0 liter.

He did not missprint. A 305 is a 5.0 liter. A 350 is a 5.7 liter.

I understand what a 5.0 is, you are confused on what is going on.:)

I'll put a third on that! Plus the whole drivetrain has close to 500 hours. For $3300 you can do a lot better than that!

unless I missed it you don't state the length of the boat. If it is a 19' he is asking about $400 over NADA. 21' and he is right at NADA. If this price includes a trailer it would be a fair price.(Not a great deal but fair)

That being said I agree that in today's market he is high on his asking price. Now if everything checks out and you really like the boat the enjoyment you will get out of it will make it the best $3k you have ever spent.

Spend some time looking in the bilge while sitting still, I have seen several of these boats leak due to old seals on the transom. Look around the transom seal on the outside and make sure nobody has "caulked" it with 5200 (Noticed this on several boats I looked at) This is a bad thing!!! It means it did leak at one point and more than likely the transom is rotten now.

Also know that most of your replacement parts on that outdrive will be hard to get. Ebay will be your parts store.

Seller surely expects to take less. Get alll the life jackets, fishing poles, ski ropes, etc that you can see thrown in with it.

I'd keep looking, it's not like you're talking about a BW or a GW.

Re: Is this fair price for boat?

Ok, I respect everyone's opinion but if this boat is overpriced where can I find a better one for the same price? I am purusing craigslist for Portland, OR and Seattle, WA and all the surrounding areas. Hit up the newspaper, checked ebay, nothing on boattrader.com, nothing on Iboats classifieds. Believe me I would like to get something other than a bayliner. I had a nice boat last year but had to sell. Is there some place I am not checking for used boats?

Ah now I understand. You're in the pacific northwest and we have definitely had other members searching for boats in that area seeing much higher prices. That $3k is probably a fair price in that area if the boat is in good condition. Craigslist (use http://crazedlist.org/ to search multiple areas simultaneously), ebay, and iboats are the major search places I'm familiar with.
