Greetings all.

I have replaced my shift and throttle cables on my Mercury 50 ELPTO. I downloaded the manual and all went very well. One thing ive noticed is the following and im not sure if it was already like this (a Mercury thing), or I need an adjustment.
.
With the throttle in neutral, the prop spins both ways by hand as it should.
When in forward, the prop wont turn one way, but goes clunk clunk clunk when spun the other way by hand.
When in reverse, the prop wont spin either way by hand and is locked.

Is this normal for Mercury or not.
The manual does not indicate this.
I Have removed the lower leg but it still does the same. ??
Any help please.

Cheers

Angelo, It is normal. Merc uses a two straight clutch dog ears on the reverse gear. They use several triangle-shaped clutch dog ears on the forward gear. If you are on plane in forward and the motor cuts out (ran out of gas?), you will hear the gearcase go clunk-clunk-clunk as you slow down. It is a safety feature, as you can slow down more gradually that way.
