Is there anyone on here with experience rebuilding Yamaha 2 strokes?

unbolt power head
take it to local rebuild shop. for example, this place is near my work https://marinerebuilds.com/
pay the bill in 2 weeks and bolt on fully rebuilt power head.
a rebuild is usually a new case, new pistons, new rods, new bearings, and if your crank is bad, a new crank.

a power head for a 70hp is $1600

I am sure there are plenty of people that have rebuilt 2 strokes to some extent.
why are you asking, and how far into them are you needing answers to?

It is just parts and pieces.----Some have a multi piece crankshaft that requires special tools.----If you post specific information such as the nature of the problem it will help you.----Or what tools and experience do you have ?----What motor do you have ?

knowledge - yes. as indicated by @racerone its just parts and pieces
have my own inspection tools - yes.
own my own machine shop - no. I hire that out.
Have a daily delivery of 2-stroke parts - no
get dealer pricing on parts - no
have time to tear the motor apart, inspect everything, have the block machined, then order pistons, etc........ - No

I learned that sometimes the least expensive and fastest way to rebuild some things is to hire it out.

case in point, the cost to get a yamaha crank kit is $700, cost of a yamaha piston kit $400, Machine work etc $400. misc other parts $300. cost of hiring it out is much less money, and it comes with a warranty and is done in 2 weeks, where I am on a waiting list for the machine shop.

The reason I ask is out of the questions I have asked so far, I get no responses from anyone and only views on my posts. I thought maybe there could be someone on this forum that has experience rebuilding these motors and not taking them some where else to have it done. I know how to work on engines but at times it doesn't hurt to ask advice of others. My motor is a 1989 yamaha 90etlf and I was curious how anyone else may have installed an injection pump drive gear without a press. The brass gear is 140 dollars so I don't want to mess it up. I wasn't sure if I could heat the gear up so that it would just slide onto the crankshaft or if heating the brass gear would cause damage.

Scott danforth and Racerone apparently are just no use on this forum. When people ask for help with basic questions I would expect an answer on the question and not to tell me to go buy a press or good luck with my project. I clearly needed to know if it would damage the brass gear by heating it as I have fit gears on shafts in the past with heat but none of them were brass. I did get my engine finished and it runs just fine with no help from both of you. I even built my own press so no need to go spend 170+ dollars on one. Apparently you two are not able to think outside of the box and make stuff. Here are the pictures of how I installed the brass gear. Also If yall get butt hurt and want to boot me from the forums then go ahead. LMAO

You are the one who is butt hurt. You got free information and are nothing but a spoiled ungrateful 2 yr old. By the way you did have to press it on like Scott said.

You were told to press it on and given a suggestion on a press. You then pressed it on using the advice given here. So by taking the advice you successfully installed the brass gear on the crank. So you not only take up peoples time you are mad about the advice. Then you act like an ungrateful 2 yr old, Good luck with your motor.

Hi there. You likely haven’t helped yourself any here. But, yeah, I’ve rebuilt a few Yamaha 2 strokes before. What exactly do you need to know, apart from the basic info above ?
Until then, I’d suggest you go easy on the power head bolts for sure…just to get you started. Other than that and the crazy price for parts…they can be a pleasure to work on. But unfortunately, depending on the engine value, they can also be not worth rebuilding too…if you are going the full measure and sense of the idea.
