Is the Hudson considered brackish?

I was reading something on old Mercury's saying that it's not good to run them in brackish water and I understand why because of the plain steel driveshaft ect... That got me thinking, the closest body of water to my house is the Hudson river and I was planning on being able to use my boat there from time to time. I've read that it is considered brackish from the ocean to Troy NY, but is it enough to hurt my old Merc?. I'd be boating right around the Rip Van Winkle bridge, at least I would start there.

I don't think so. This article indicates that on REALLY dry years you might get some salt in the water as far up as Poughkeepsie but I'm sure even there it's pretty weak. Hudson River or Estuary? (you may be surprised) | SeaAndSkyNY
