Hello all, so far my restoration of my 1980 Phantom is going swimmingly thanks to all of you out there with some amazing journals. I've posted a couple questions and gotten great answers (I changed my profile because "1980 Phantom Mystic" was not a good name). But now it's time for me to be looking at getting the glassing mixtures and I'm wondering if there is any way to tell quickly if a boat was manufactured with Epoxy or Polyester? For the cost savings I'm hoping to be able to use polyester but I know that if it's already epoxy I'm stuck going that way.

i would guess it was originally fabed using polyester, its cheaper to use in the mfging process, most boats from that era were fabed using poly, and god forbid if they spend some money to make something last anymore.

Welcome to iboats!

You have about a 98% chance it is regular fiberglass. Only the high end boats were mass produced with epoxy (such as the recent Cobalts..... the early ones were not).
