Re: Is NADA worthless?
so the consensus here is that NADA is generally not even good as a guideline.
I will look into BUC...though I think you have to pay for BUC dont you...to get the most recent and complete info...so I will wait till I am actually got things narrowed down to just a few boats.
I am not so insane that I do not appreciate that someone shopping for a boat would need to adjust for local demand factor, manufactuer reputation, etc. etc. Sounds to me though that Marine sales places have got stuff locked up. If there is no actual basis for what they can charge...then they can charge anything they want...and apparently some do. The prices on the same boat with the same options are all over the board!
It is a shame there is not a more accurate guide available...alot of banks use NADA...my bank uses NADA...if the price on NADA and the price on the lot where closer together more boat would get sold. My bank will not loan anywhere near what local dealers are charging ( and I prefer to use my bank because the financing rate is cheaper)...leaving a sizeable deficit to be covered in the down payment.
so you are left with buying at what the dealer charges without any good way of arguing price or knowing you are getting a good deal or not...and using the financing and financing company that they offer at higher interest than you could find on your own
...seems that they have it covered coming and going.
maybe that is why one of my local marine dealers financing companies is owned and operated by his wife...they ACTUALLY ARE IN BED TOGETHER!
