I have a 1985 Beach Craft Bow Rider I/O, the lower stern drive case has a crack in it, the I/O seal has cracked and the engine mounts have pulled out of the floor. I got the boat for free from my dad because he did not want to deal with it but I would like to try and salvage it if at all possible. The rest of the boat in very nice, and the engine runs like a top. I just do not want to invest alot of time and money into it if it is not worth it. Any opinions would be appreciated.

Re: Is my boat worth repairing?

The boat can probably be repaired for less than a late model boat will cost used. The lower unit will run about 1500 rebuilt, plus the transom, stringer and deck will probably need replacing. If you use polyester resin, figure about $500 for resin, glass and plywood, plus the repair parts for the outdrive. If you can find a good used outdrive cheap, then maybe you can get the whole thing on the water for under 1500. Plus the time you put into it.

Its only worth it if its worth it to you.

Check ebay for outdrive parts. Now if you think floor stringers and transom jobs are fast or easy. You might want to look for a boat. But if you have more time than money Here is the best project it was free.

If you're looking to get out on the water fast then no but it sounds like you might have an opportunity to learn a little about what makes a boat tic. At the very least you'll learn how to take care of one so you don't end up with problems like you have now.

It sounds to me like this one hit something hard and there may be more damage then you know. The only way to find out what it will cost to get it back on the water is to tear it down and check it out.

That's a lot of work and if you're not prepaired to spend your nights and weekends working on a boat then you'll be better off letting this one go and buying something in a little better shape.
