Is it possible to bypass the oil cooler on an aq130?

I have a Volvo Penta AQ130 that I am having some issues with, I think I have the other issue figured out but in doing so I noticed a water leak at the back of the oil cooler. I pulled the end caps off and on the backside the cooler part of the lip that needs to be there for the o-ring to seal properly is missing. I assume it corroded away since the previous owner had it sitting for a while. I have looked around for a replacement and of course they are not cheap at all so is it OK to just bypass it or does the oil really get that hot in these?

They make it that way cause it works best that way.
You probably could bypass it and it would work.
If your real Macgiverish you could rig a different cooler.
Google volvo penta oil cooler and see if there is something you can adapt.

Thank you, that is kinda what I figured. If I were to put in a different cooler I would have to drill and tap holes in the cooler I have in order to connect it to another which leaves a lot more chances of some failure ending with oil everywhere so I don't think I'll try that. Right now all I would have to do to bypass it is put a hose from the copper tube on one end to the copper tube on the other end and it should be good!
