1988 force 85 hp ...... Is it possible to add a VRO pump on these boats to mix the oil and fuel together as opposed to mixing it manually..... Im just curious, And i actually cant think of any major reason that it cant be done. Other then not exactly knowing what the mix ratios are on these Vro Pumps

Some of the late model 120's have an oil pump to mix with the gas. Block casting was modified to allow for an oil pump shaft which was driven off of a helical gear mounted on the bottom of the crankshaft. Lower crankshaft bearing was located slightly lower on the crankshaft to make room for the gear. Here's a picture of it from my Force manual. This particular example is for a 1992 L-Drive.

I've worked on all of the Forces and this is the first pics I've seen of a oil system for a Force.(cool)
Why would you want to mess with an already great working system.
There is no way I'd try that and trust it when I go out 20 miles in the Atlantic.J

I am sure anything is possible, but I would not mess with it. It will not be any cheaper in oil or gas. I would just keep adding oil manually, that way you know you are getting the right mixture.

You will hear all sorts of pros and cons about VRO pumps. However, the question is not can you add one, but rather why would you want to?

Sure, you can add a VRO pump, but Force never made an add on one so you would be forced--no pun intended-- to use one from a Merc or OMC. Then you would need to find space to mount it. You would also need the electrics to run it in addition to the pulse hoses and ports. A lot of fuss and bother for negligible rewards. Much simpler to just add oil to the gas.

Sure, you can add a VRO pump if you really want to and I have on occasion thought about it, but then common sense takes over.

Plus you would be surprised by how many people have disabled their VRO and reverted back to pre-mix

you guys are right... I looked into the setup and it would cost somewhere in the range of 500/1000 to do with new parts not used... and then the additional labor of what Frank stated. Space and electrical... Im not changing a thing. The boat runs great and ill just keep on mixing her...
