I live in the Uk and am a frequent poster on the outboard troubles/repair forum. I have been rebuilding a 1960's johnson whilst looking for a hull which I have now purchased. It is old and not pretty, but will give approximately 30 knots with a 140hp and 50kts with 2x140hp's (if you can hold on long enough, lol). I have yet to have a proper thorough look round it, but i am expecting to have to strip the antifoul and possibly the gel coat. I also expect to be making some cosmetic repairs (first timer). I am under the impression that the materials used should be a similar grade to the original materials, so what type of glassfibre matting, resins etc. would I have to use to make repairs on this hull?

the first thing I expect to do is remove the olde antifoul. What do i need to buy in order to do this? I have access to a pressure washer and have a good yard to work in. Do i just paint the stuff on all over below the water line and then leave it to soak in for a couple of days and the jetwash of the worst and scrape off the rest?

You have posted this same for sale item 4 or 5 times now and have been told that it is against iboats rules as many times.
Sorry, but you can't follow rules, go to a place that you can post your for sale item/s on.

i have a usmc 1988 rigid raider for sale.

Hi rigidraider. Welcome to iboats.

Your new, but even so there are a few rules here.

You just broke two.

1. Please don't hijack other peoples threads, even if it is two years old. :D
2. No selling allowed. There are many other places in the net to do that, if that is what you are looking to do.

That said, cool boat.

Hello mate not sure how far you have got with this project as it seems quite an old post, But I am worried about the info you posted on outboard configuration, it is wrong and they are expensive so just wanted to let you know before you bought a second engine. The raider will carry a 140 but that is its limit I operated this craft for 14 years in the military and instructed on it. We had 140 Suzuki?s on them if you want twin engines we used twin mariner 40,s but it needs transom alterations. With the 140 it is fast we reckoned about 45 knots, it is not a setup for the inexperience coxswain though or the weak of heart. The boat is prone to what was known as a speed wobble which if not dealt with can flip the boat.

Hello fellow mk1 ridged raider owner. just got mine at the start of the summer and love :D it cant offer very much on ur questions but can tell you that they are very stable and manoverable if i little low on water when drifting. i have a johnson 30 hp on mine and is only a little underpowered. will warn also that trying 2 fit any thing 2 the aft flat bits on ether side such as rod holders is near on impossible due 2 10mm thick steal just under the fiberglass. if you want 2 get together and invade normandy or something drop me a msg. I've been on the look out for a Rigid raider mk2 for sale for some time now and had no luck! Anybody know of where I might find one! Are they rare? Cos I only seem to be able to find the 5.5 mk1's! Any info would be appreciated ;)

This post makes NO sense at all. It was started in 2006 and the last reply was 3 years ago

Please pay attention to the dates!!

THAT DOES NOT MEAN THAT NOBODY IS INTERESTED THOUGH!!! LOL!!!
Thanks SHADOW01UK, I have thankfully realised that the 6.3 metre mk11 craft was the more capable boat that would ake the two 140hp's. So I have only put the one 140hp on mine, LOL!:) However, it has been on the backburner for a long time, due to the usual stuff, you know family, starting a business, moving etc. During this time I have been basically saving and buying the stuff I am gona need. In the last 12 months I bought a fishfiner, GPS, DSC VHF, Road trailer and some other bits and bobs. I would really appreciate the benfit of your experience relating to the speed wobbling you mentioned, amongst other things. I apologise for the delay in replying to your original post, but I haven'y been coming on since I haven't really been physicaly working on the boat. Cheers.
