It is unfortunate that we can not trust who is on the other end of the phone these days. It is for this reason that I no longer do business over the phone. If I think it is legit I tell them I do not trust phone calls and to contact me by mail.

Awe come on Bruce, I am old and retired, but I still like to have fun sometimes!

I know ... really! My wife laughs and shakes her head when I run to pick up the phone from a caller ID identified telemarketer ... she knows it is going to be quite entertaining. I feel sorry for the person on the other end of the line because they are trying to make a living, albeit a scummy living. However, that does not take away from my enjoyment. I must admit I have been swore at, called names, hung up on, etc., but I have had great fun in the process!

I had one guy cussing me out and I stopped him and asked, "Who called who?" Then I asked who interrupted who's evening with their family? Then I asked him if I didn't deserve a little fun out of it. He laughed, apologized, and I apologized for giving him a hard time, and we both said good-bye.

A few decades ago, I worked in office equipment repair. There were telemarketers that tried to sell toner/paper/typewriter ribbons to our customers. They would even identify themselves a representing our company.

I was in a print shop one day and the owner came over and asked why a salesman was calling if I had just delivered his toner order. I told him the guy wasnt from our company and he said watch this. He went over, talked a bit and told the guy he would be right back and set the phone down. After about 10 minutes he went back and asked if the guy was still there. Evidently he was because the next thing I heard was 'Well you are about the dumbest SOB Ive spoken with today' and hung up.
