I posted earlier in the year regarding PFDs inflatables v normal
the wife popped for inflatable PFDs six of them, before committing I tried on a variety of them from the basic up to some very expensive sailing versions. I liked the fit and feel of the onyx am-33 auto manual inflatable version.
The 24 was a little smaller and lighter but the 33 has a very soft neoprene neck band that was for sure a plus when the weather allowed a t shirt. and the extra lift isnt a bad idea as well.
after a hundred plus hours of rough water tuna fishing salmon fishing pulling crab pots etc I can tell you they are a permanent fixture in my boats now. I know for a fact some of my crew might have grumbled about 14 hour day in a cumbersome normal pfd but the only comments I got were great one of my buddies told me thanks he liked the idea, he’s boated with me since 1990 and never put one on before.
if you spend a lot of time on the water and do not currently always wear a PFD I strongly recommend it. It may not only change your life but save it. The jacket you have on is the best jacket.
Things I’d suggest at least one spare inflator I’m keeping two now. We did have one deploy while pulling crab pots pull cord must have hung on something and I recommend carrying two normal offshore jackets just in case, we are for sure off shore and at sea on occasion.
