Anybody hook up this way for tunes on the boat? What do you need ? An ampliphier, speakers and ipod dock or something to go to amp?

I have a stereo head, Alpine, that's ipod ready. Of course it acts as the amp and has pre-outs for the subwoofer. You actually control the ipod from the stereo and it keeps it charged all the time. Works out great.

Pretty much any cheap head unit these days has either an ipod or usb input that will do the same.

What I put in my truck was a JVC unit that has a USB plug that I can plug my ipod into or just stick in a memory stick with music on it.

I plan to do the same for my boat.

You can't beat Alpine head units for ipod integration. I have one in my truck and it works awesome.

For a CHEAP solution, my wife bought me this 2 years ago for father's day and it has surprisingly good sound and it very water resistant. I plan to us it on my boat. I'm not interested in installing a stereo system on my boat. http://www.buy.com/prod/jensen-jiss...-with-lcd-for-ipod/q/loc/17250/208280403.html

That looks interesting. How loud will it go?

Just wondering if it can be heard over a 4 stroke 10hp trolling motor.

I added a MP3 player to my 'ancient' stereo by simply buying a Y adapter that plugged into the audio jacks in the rear of the unit. The other end had a subminiture jack (3.5 I think) that fit the MP3.
Only cost about 10 bucks. Sounds great, too!

I have a Stilleto II Sirius head unit I use in my boat and my vehicles, it is a MP3 player as well so I have the best of both worlds...satellite radio and MP3 player in one. The best part is the StilletoII allows you to save Sirius songs you have heard for later playback! All I have in the boat is the amp and crossover/preamp and four speakers plus car kit for the Sirius head unit.

I have no music in the boat. I want to hear that reel sing when the big one hits!
