Hello this is my first post on here. just got my first boat 18' Carolina Skiff fish and ski bass series with a Tohatsu 140. it was running like crap when I got it would only get to 1500 rpm under load. went through carbs and someone left off a rubber plug that caps off one of the jets. now it runs much better but my friend thinks it should be a little faster. it peaks out at 41 mph (GPS) and turning 5k to do that. it also seems slow to plane out' took it out this weekend and ran it for hours with not one issue during this run I had some seafoam in the tank since it has been sitting for years not running at all.

Re: Introduce myself

Before you get critical, run it some more with the SF and give it time to work. Your numbers aren't all that bad. Depends on a lot of things you aren't telling us. Put some hours on it with SF and come back with the numbers. A pic of the hull will help as will what all you have in the boat and what you take out on a trip (looking at total weight and hull resistance). Be sure to include rpm and speed, gps preferred, prop type and pitch. Also get the recommended operating rpm range and the gear ratio. Go to the Tohatsu forum and get ahold of "Tohatsu Guru". He should have those answers.

Re: Introduce myself

Welcome to iboats - you may find it runs better with some new gas in it. Good luck with the new acquisition.

Re: Introduce myself

Actually 41mph sounds pretty respectable from what you posted. I see nothing wrong...

Re: Introduce myself

thank you for your reply I had to drain tank since it had near 10% water in fuel so it has new gas in it.
here is a little info that i gathered
boat weight 1250 lbs
beam width 7'6"
length 18'
engine Tohatsu M140A2 3c7
full throttle range 5200 to 5700 rpm
Mass 163 to 167 kg
ratio is 2.01
prop not 100% sure it looks like a 20 pitch

Re: Introduce myself

If you had that much water in the fuel you're lucky it ran at all. Keep some Seafoam in it for a while and see how it goes. It's bound to improve the performance with clean fuel and fuel system.
