First thing would be to uninstall the drivers for your nic then reboot and reinstall or let win7 do it. If that doesnt work then either u have a bad cable or the nic is junk and needs replaced. The light on router isn't powering because its not getting any power from the nic on laptop.

Also check pins on laptop's nic card ethernet connector to make sure none are bent or broken off.

Here is the rest of the story! I didn't do squat and it is now working. Taking dollupers advice, I went to device manager to check the NIC function. It showed that it was functioning. I closed that out and just for grins I clicked on Firefox. It opened right up to the homepage. I then went over and checked the modem/router lights. The Et3 port lite is now glowing. Go Figure! I didn't jiggle any cords or connectors or do anything else but fret.

Yea Boom nice fix LOL'S.....you know your router won't light up until its connected.......the other computers must have their connections open all the time........my wifees computer is like that she leaves it open all the time......to lazy to disable it......She just logs off powers it down and shuts it off.....I disable my internet connection all the time......the light goes out on the router when I disable the connection
I also have two connections......1 for wireless and 1 for wired
depending on what I'm using I connect to.....both have shortcuts on the desktop screen and taskbar after log on

Yeah, that's what I'm afeared of!

Did have a scare this morning though. Mrs B opened up her laptop and clicked on FireFox. It would not open up. Ah ha I said and went straight away to the Device Mgr. It showed the NIC to be working properly. I went out to the modem/router to check the port lite and it was glowing BUT the INT lite was not. I reset the modem and all was off and running. False alarm, for sure!

Dolluper, curious why you would disable a network connection between a computer and a router. You worried about attacks?

Boomyal, sounds like you have a hardware issue that is possibly failing.

I don't understand the switching off of the Wired Connection? However if it were to be done it would have to be setup on all the computers hooked to the modem/router and that would be a pain. One more techy thing to remember before you could get down to bidna.

I still have to get back to setting up and integrating the 8 port router so that when the kids visit, all computer stations are firing.

I don't understand the switching off of the Wired Connection? However if it were to be done it would have to be setup on all the computers hooked to the modem/router and that would be a pain. One more techy thing to remember before you could get down to bidna.

Just what I have grown to know about the internet.....Open ports for trusted updates.....the rest of the HACKERS can wait till I open up THATS WHY.....trust is in god they say.......plus I have tons of mechanical files encripted......learn't my leason many years ago
