2000 Glastron SX 175 135 HP volvo Penta new to me. Sold with a "starter solenoid problem" that causes intermittent no start, runs fine most times. Replaced the starter with solenoid and still had the problem. Starts fine 4 out 5 times then nothing. instrument panel has power, just no ignition. Moved the controller/neutral switch in and out, but nothing. Replaced the relay and ran fine for 2 outings, started probably 10 times and then nothing. Seems to not start when hot. Towed it and pulled it out of the water and would fire on the ramp OK. Got ignition 3 times since...Works at the shop. Any Thoughts? Many Thanks!

Re: Intermittent no start

Is the engine cranking with the starter only not running, or is the starter not turning over.

Starter wont fire when you turn the key. We are able to jump the solenoid.

Re: Intermittent no start

Have you checked the ignition switch itself? Next time it won't start, get a test light or a meter and and see if you get power out of the S terminal (Yellow/red wire) when you turn the key to start.
If you have power there, then it's in the wiring or a defective neutral safety switch. You can bypass it for testing. Was the terminals corrosion free where the relay was plugged in?

Re: Intermittent no start

Thank you. Mechanic put in the relay so I'm assuming it was clean. I was going to get some dielectric silicone and go over the contacts that I could get to. Will check the relay contacts and the ignition as you suggested. Again Many Thanks!!
