Thought my interior make over for the front bow would be a licky sticky quicky. Not trying for anything marvalous, bc kids use it for a playground, but realised shortly after starting to pull the rotten pieces out i had a problem. Looks as if on my 1995 Caravelle Interceptor 232, the bow side cushions were bolted on before the hull was put together. There is only about a 1" space between the floor hull and the top cap to get to the back side bolt locations. Also the front cushion i physically cant reach bc i dont have arms 5' long. The ice chest/storage compartment is one piece with the whole top. So i can get them off one way or another, but i would like some input on what kind of clips people have used with good results. The only way im comfortable attaching these is using a blind bolt through the wood into the fiberglass and bolted from the backside. Im worried with clips of kids being able to pull them off. Im also toying with using screws but i dont like the force being applied only to where the screw is pulling at the hole location, i like a backing plate/large washer to ditribute the force across the fiberglass. You can see in the pic the large factory holes where the interior was bolted through. Very nice installation, just no access.photo 11.jpgphoto 12.jpgphoto 13.jpg

Welcome to Iboats MDO ..

If you can through bolt the side bolsters then do it.

If you cant then the clips are really the only other way to do it without looking like crap.

Are you sure that front bolster isnt clipped already ?

Good luck.

YD.

Mdo- about a year ago I replaced all vinyl in my wellcraft. It had shipped from the factory with (after much research) I found to be a "double sided christmas tree retainer". I put about 10 on each section of vinyl (about 3 feet long by 8 inches high), and it has held VERY well. I don't think iboats carries the clips (as they didn't when I needed them), so here is a link to what you are looking for.

Amazon.com: 25 Double End Xmas Tree Retainers Clips 11/32" Stem Diameter: Automotive

Make sure you drill the holes a little bit smaller than the clips so that they have a tight fit. If you are doing new wood backing, I found it easiest to place the backing where it will go before putting the vinyl on, clamp it in place, and drill holes through the wood AND fiberglass at the same time to ensure that they line up (and making note to miss any existing holes so the clips hold as tight as possible). If you already have the backing attached to the vinyl it is a bit trick drilling through that as the foam inside catches on the drill bit and gets twisted up once you've gone through the backing board.
