Re: insurance write off

I think you would have to buy it from them like you have to do with a car.

Re: insurance write off

going on third hand info here......story is....ranger bought new about 6 months old when owner had jammed steering and parked the boat up on the bank. insurance wrote him a check and said boat was a total loss. the check covered the cost of the hull not the total cost of the boat. owner sold motor to local marina then sold rest to a guy my brother in law works with. he stripped the power poles, trolling motor etc leaving hull and trailer. my trailer is rusty so intrested in the one under the boat and now discusting price but he wont sell unless the person takes the hull. hull is meant to have a hole in the front lower. im wondering if im looking at a possible project or a hull that needs to be scrapped out for any parts left then pay to dump it.

I wonder if you can get a salvage title for it? It would be hard to sell if that's your intention but if you plan to keep it and use it until it's ready for the junk yard again that might work. I know out here if the HIN has been removed and theres no reason to believe that theft is involved, they give you a HIN that shows it's manufacturer as home built. That might also work.

Some states will re-issue a salvage title.

Why don't you just call your insurance agent and ask ?

Insurance agent wouldn't know or care about this... Need to talk about whatever agency does titling for your boats in your state.

Re: insurance write off

My mistake , I should have said to call the adjuster that examined your boat.He/she would know exactly what the process is. After one of my cars was totaled, thats what I did. The adjuster knew and guided me as to what I had to do. In essence, I bought the car back from the insurance co. via a reduced payoff from them. He also explained the salvage title process to get the car back on the road. My car was covered by the insurance on the property where it was parked when it got hit. It wasn't even my policy or insursance company and they helped me out. I do not know if a totaled boat goes thru a salvage title process....but I bet I would call whomever the adjuster was and find out.
Secondly , if it had been my insurance company and I called my agent to find out this information and my agent did not get me this information pertaining to a claim , that year would have been the last year he was paid a commision for selling me the policy.

Re: insurance write off

well in ga a boat isnt a titled vehicle.. so if you got a georgia adress (po box) you could buy it in ga without a title. but the trailer is seperate from the boat and engine. so i assume the engine and trailer wasnt considered in the insurance pay off.. and the trailer has a seperate vin and seperate registration... so trailer shouldnt have a salvage branded title...

Re: insurance write off

florida doesnt title engines which is a bad thing. the trailer has a clear title thats no problem its the hull that was wrote off by the insurance and it wasnt mine so i have no idea who the adjuster was. from what i was told the hull was payed for by the insurance but as the add on items were not damadged then the insurance didnt pay for them. the owner could have bought a new hull and transfered the items to the new hull and been back on the water but i guess once you leave the wet stuff at speed and park a boat up the bank you might not be that keen on trying again so he sold all the bolt on items with the hull and trailer and it keeps being sold as people strip what they want then sell it on. now i want the trailer the question is if the hull has limited damadge that would cost thousands in a shop to fix could i repair it and get a title or do i see if theres anything left to sell then pay to scrap the hull.

You need to call whoever issues boat registrations in Fl and ask them, they will know and it should be a 5 minute phone call and you can go from there.

The question is, did you get the title for the hull?
