Installing Fishfinder

Hi to all!

I need a little help with my fishfinder installation. I have a 17' Javelin fish/ski, and I want to put a Hummingbird fishfinder up by my trolling motor. Having never done this, I'm a little more than nervous at the prospect of drilling a hole into my boat to run the power line back to my batteries.

Any suggestions on how to approach this properly? I've even starting looking into the possibility of getting one of those rechargeable 12V batteries; but I don't think that is a very decent long term solution.

Re: Installing Fishfinder

just follow mfg's directions. Use a good silicone sealant around the screws for the transponder and use a hole you already have above the water line for the cables. Not really that hard, just scary if it is your first time. :D

Re: Installing Fishfinder

No kidding...The transducer will be mounted to my trolling motor, so that part won't be a problem. The included directions are for mounting the fishfinder by the steering column, and running the cables back.

I want to mount at the front of the boat, so I won't have to drill anything for the transducer itself, only for the power cables. That's where I'm nervous.
