Now that the engine is drained...., the coolant was pretty cruddy after 4 hrs of run time, can I do a coolant flush without a thermostat installed, thinking the new thermostat might get messed up or clogged. Or should I get 2 thermostats, use one for the flush.
I did clean the cast iron exhaust manifold and elbow they were pretty rusty and chunky but I guess not good enough.

new doesnt mean accurate. use an IR thermometer.

if your motor runs cooler than 140, it will wear out quickly.
