Inherited Monkey Wards 12 foot Sea King

Hi, all. Found this site as I was trying to find information on determining the serial number and age of this relic. My Dad passed in 2019 and hadn’t used since his best fishing partner — my Mom — passed in 1996. It has sat in my barn since 2002 and I recently decided to sell it in a garage sale. EPIC FAIL. LOL

So prior to that, I had taken multiple registrations to the Secretary of State office to get the title in my name and the very patient young one who assisted me did the best she could. I now have a watercraft title for it and a registration for the trailer, BUT THE BOAT NUMBER IS WRONG as I learned through opening mail today. It seems someone else has that number.

Any chance someone on this forum can help me determine the model number and serial number?

I’ve since decided, too, that I oughta give it a go at restoring it — with funky colors and flowers and such so it’s an apparent woman’s boat.

Boats are just boats and some are worth something and some are worth nothing. But a family heirloom is priceless.

Google Fiberglassics.com and review the library. There is a link to Monky Ward Sea King. You have the model number, so a lookup should be easy.

I can't read the numbers from your pic or I would have done it for you.

Be sure to name the boat after your Mom.

Hey, Jim! After I made that post, I took some wax paper from the cupboard and with a pencil, just kind of ran it over and over across the serial number over the wax paper and managed to get the number and the year it was manufactured. 1968!

That’s a great idea to name it after my Mom. She was Italian, she joined the Navy to “escape” home and her nickname in the service was Teddy, so I am sure I can come up with something.

I had that model boat. We called it the roly poly not the most stable craft but it was fun. Probably rated for a 7.5 hp motor.

LOL…. I will pass on that name and hope I don‘t experience that roly poly. I kayak a bit so I am no stranger to tipping but it’s not something I aim for! I was thinking I would look for a trolling motor.

You can hardly go wrong with those little boats. We used to yank the outboard, and row ours out in the lake, lash the oars and flip it over. It made a great swim platform

Drag it over to the sandbar, roll it back over and row home.
