Sevylor has a large product line of inflatibles and most are vinyl so they are relativly inexpensive. When it comes to inflatibles you surely get what you paid for.I bought a Hypalon ocean kayak a few years back from a guy the spent about 3 grand on it to bring to Hawaii to ride the waves.I have had it about 5 years and find that I dont use it much.I planned on using it all the time as he probably did too.I think I have used it only 4 or 5 times.Take this into consideration when buying.Email me if you want to know some of the pros and cons about inflatable kayaks.catanesecharles@hotmail.com Charlie

Are you set on buying an inflatable? I am curious as to what type of paddling you are looking to do with it.

I have owned many "hard shell" kayaks and have paddled both inflatables and folding models like the Folbot. Getting the right tool for the job is just as important for kayaks as ski boats.

Both make great inflatable kayaks, just stay away from no name brands. You pay a lot for a reason.

We had a Sevlor for a couple of years that we used to paddle around in a pond in. It lasted until a dog ate holes in it. I didn't use it much because I'm not much of a fan of a wet rump, but the grand children had a ball in it. Dog's like it quite a lot too, now that I think about it. Guess I really got my money's worth.

Thom

I have a Seyvlor Tahiti and while it's OK for very light duty, I don't consider it a "real" kayak. The summer sun softens the vinyl, making it expand- therefore creating less air pressure and requiring additional inflation. I've since purchased 2 hard 'yaks- a 10' Old Town Otter for fun and a 16' Necky for touring. The inflatable now sits in the garage.

I have a Sevylor Ocean 17 Kayak that meets all heavy duty kayaking needs, and can be outfitted as a sailboat. It has a self bailing option also. The self bailing would be very helpful for use in bad conditions. I am not sure about motor use with it, but it should be possible. It will catch more wind than a hard kayak, but has an 800 pound capacity. It will take two large and one small persons. It is extremely stable. It has very hard outer tubes with inflatable inner tubes. There are many options for inflatable kayaks. I started out with Coleman kayaks from Wal Mart that cost $40. The newer Sevylor Ocean 17 model is around $1000 now. It is not sleek and fast, but will haul people and gear. It is better for stability than any other kayak. You can sit on a tube with no problem. Sea Eagle also makes many models, including one similar to the Ocean 17 plus many lighter models, and large variants of sailboats etc. They are heavily built also. They have a great web site. seaeagle.com

I think the OP needs to tell us what the budget and the intended use is.

Are you looking for something for the kids to paddle around the local duck pond, or are you doing some serious ocean kayaking?

What you want to do with it is key information. A hard shell boat will outperform an inflatable. As for inflatables, NRS and AIRE make good ones. Sevylor is low end and I'm not familiar with Stearns.
