Re: inflatable catamaran

hi dee jay been a while
had to buy new laptop

ok, back to biz, or back to me being the aprentice!

I see that the motors are resting on something that i am not familiar with. is it some kind of raiser or shock absorber?

also see that the tiler arms are extended. why? what is the purpose of that?

what else should I do to my boat to better it?
And, what else should i do to my boatline to better it?

Hey bud It is just a perspex spacer the motor is resting on, we adjust the height all the time, so we push in spacers to quickly change the height to a pre-determined height .... The tiller arm is extended so the pilot can move to right infront of the boat .... we race in very rough conditions some time that require me to sit in the front next to the co-pilot in storm wind from the front .....

Re: inflatable catamaran

so you mean that besides using a short shaft (15 inch) motor u also use a system to raise it? making the shaft shorter?

Re: inflatable catamaran

yes indeed, the higher you can get the motor the more rpm & the more speed .... but at the same time the motor needs to pump water still ...... I sometimes raise my motor 100mm up on the transom when flat water racing longhaul .... spinning a 19p cleaver .....

Re: inflatable catamaran

Thanks for the ideas on the motor height adjuster. I can see that since my top bolt hole is not thru the transom top square tubing that my motor is too low as I had been suspecting.

great ideas for the tiller extension. I suppose it is all custom and did notice the leash to keeping from contacting the floor on a kick up.

I could offer my two mods I am not seeing.

First is an anti tourqe spring with a rope cam adjuster to trim out the tiller pressure.

Also, I believe I had suffered from fuel foaming so went to a fuel bladder. Rather than including it inside a rigid fuel cell I use the neoprene envelope alone and enjoy the added cockpit space, lack of sharp edges, apparent fuel level, able to move around then fasten to floor as needed for balance.

Although, I do seem to have a flooding problem on my lower carb and wonder if this bladder may be sending pressure spikes in rough landings.

Re: inflatable catamaran

Hello all,
Have a question deejaycee, I just bought myself a varient of a thundercat. Its something basiclly the same configuration except with a glass hull and longer at 4.8m.

Problem I have at the moment is the choice of motor, as I want to use the boat for explorering and perhaps multiday camping trips I want something that is economical, but I also want to go fast when I can. So I am edging towards a 60hp or 50hp 4 stroke tiller. Weighing around 110kg dry. The boat itself weights around 130kg. However some people have told me to go for 2 stroke all the way so perhaps a Etec or Tohatsu TLDI? Low running cost and relibility is on the top of the list as well.

Because I have next to no experience with these boats I was wondering if I can get a bit of your advice?

thanks in advance.
