I am with JB.<br /> its what seperates the United States and the good Americans in it from the rest of the world.<br /> no other nation on the planet can do what we do.<br /> having just returned from a 30 day trip to Venezuela I can tell you that the average Venezuelan is not what you see on the telly vision. they actually still like americans and are a very frendly people.<br /> my trip covered caracas,valencia,rio Chico and El Manteco(lake Guri) and also encompassed some of the poorest areas of VE.<br /> I left 7 fishing poles some mag lights and more cash and lures than I care to admit also a few tools and some test equipment that is just not avalible there even if they could afford it.<br /> but in the event of a major Disaster we would be there if allowed.<br /> the US always does.<br />most folks I see here that think they are poor should travel to an area that is actually poor.<br /> not much of a govt social saftynet in most other countries.<br /> my belief is if the goverment of indonesia asks the US to remove the military we should remove it.<br /> same as if the newly elected govt of Iraq asks us to leave we should leave.<br /> otherwise we become what we took out.<br />we messed with china for 50 years trying to get democracy and capitalism in that country.<br /> now that china is becoming more of a democracy and less hard line communist and capitalism is starting to flourish we are in a world o hurt.<br /> goes back to the saying "careful what you wish for as you may get it".<br /> our military should be tasked with the aid efforts for a temporay time. its the only military on the planet that can place large amounts of manpower and supplies about anyplace on the globe in 24 hours.<br /> however its not a relief agency. in 2 weeks or so the UN and other actual relief and police agencies should take over and our military withdrawn.
