I recently aquired a 1984 four winns 190 for free from a family member. Boat is in wonderful shape but it has no engine or outdrive. It disapeared along with a shady boat mechanic never to be seen again. I was told by the owner it had a 305 in it. Thats all he really knew. I know that it was an omc unit and im wonder which one it was. The hole in the transom measures roughly 17in wide by 16in tall. Also i was wondering if i had to put exactly the same drive in it that it had or could i put a different one i without to much trouble. My plan is to purchase a donor boat that way i have all the little things i need since im not sure what all was stolen from it. Any advice would be much appeciated. Thanks!

any other system would require you to plywood/glass in the transom and recut the way a boat builder does with a new hull.
that OMC hole is larger than any other system
