Found this unit in a pile of leaves in a boat i just bought - i was about to throw it away but decided to plug it in and, what do you know, it turned on. Does anyone have any idea how to use it? When i turn the knobs the depth numbers appear on the left side of the screen but it sounds a really annoying buzzer - the knob that looks like volume doesn't seen to work. Been googling about an hour and can only find a bunch of other guys looking for instruction manuals and that the company was bought out years ago - i figured here was the best place to ask.

Thanks!

Come on guys, someone has to know something about this thing.

Is it junk? Can i at least use it as a depth finder?

Any info at all would be great. Thanks!

Impulse has been out of buusiness for many years. There use to be a place in Pittsburg California that bought all thier old stuff and did repairs but again, that was several years ago.
Yes, if it works, you just need a transduecer that matches the unit. I have an old brass thru hull from an impulse, was brand new out of the box, my friend has the actual unit that he uses on his boat with the old transduecer. I still use an Impulse Loran/depth finder combo unit and it works fine. I had the outfit in Pittsburg rebuild it for me.
I haven't actually used the Loran in a couple of years, I think it is still up and running, but there was talk of the system going away.

The transducer is still on the boat. When I turn it on it probably takes a least a minute for the screen to light up. I've only had it on in my driveway, but am taking it to the lake this weekend. Is there any way I can test it before it's in the water?

The screen stays blank until I turn the 2 knobs on the far right. One makes what I assume are the depth numbers appear on the right from the top and the other from the bottom. Both make the buzzer go off as soon as the numbers appear. The knob that apeears to be volume doesnt do anything.

Hi Crazyhorse, I'm sort of like you bought a boat from a friend, that had a bunch of old equipment on-board, including a MicroTrac 6100. The problem is the boat had 3 different transducers none connected. Been using Google but everyone seems to have the same problem Impulse is out of business, I tried an phone # 877-480-5420 but it appears to be out of service. Last night I found a trawler for sale in Anacortes, WA(about 10 miles from me) with Micro Trac unit on-board, thought I might go talk to the dealer and see if there is a manual on board and if they will let me copy it. Could you email me a photo of your transducer? You can reach me at <flomerdr@fea.net>. If I can get a manual I will make you a copy. Dave:

Did you guys ever get your manuals? I have a Micro Trac model 6800 on my boat,, and I have the manual for it. If there is still some interest, I can try to have it scanned and then I will email it to you.

Sorry, that's the best I can do.

Hi Don, Thanks no I was never able to get the manual. My Unit was a 6100 but maybe it is similar to yours. Any time you can copy them I would appreciate it.

I too just purchased a boat with a Micro Trac model 6800 with no manual. I would really appreciate you scanning it and e-mailing it to me. Thanks for your help. E-Mail: tomcatthom@comcast.net

Have you tried e-bay? The buzzer may be a depth alarm which may settable, or it may be a low voltage alarm which may also be settable. Since the boat is not in the water, the locator cannot read any depth so it sounds the alarm.

I have a Impulse Microtrac Video sonar model 6800.I have had it for about 20 years. It has worked flawlessly, and now it has broken.I am not complaining I will not mind buying a new unit if I cannot get it repaired. Is there a chance I can get it fixed?I think it may be the power switch. thank you
