impeller

my " new to me" boat started having a overheating problem. Mostly ideling around for about 3-5 minutes, if i throttled up a bit the temp came back down. I suspectedthe impeller, so i took it apart and found one fin completly gone and most others half ripped and badly cupped in the middle. My question is, is this my whole problem? do i need a whole repair kit or just a new impeller? I'm guessing i should go for the whole kit with new oring and the stainless bucket that the impeller rides in. Thanks Erik

Welcome aboard!! Thankfully I haven't had that problem (gonna say yet).. but I would go for everything since you already have it apart. I would also question how it got that way. Look for anything floating around in the chamber. I'm sure there are others that can advise you better.. those that have been there done that.

I would go for the kit that includes the housing and also replace the thermostat. If you provide the year/engine size/drive type, etc. I can direct you to the best prices out there.

Get 2. One for a spare. They are cheap enough, and can ruin a day quickly.

With the way my impeller looks with one blade missing and the rest half tore off it seems like the boat would be fine at idle and then heat up with more throttle, but mine is oppisate of that. Is that normal or is something else going on? Also what about the missing blade and other pieces that may have come off? Do i need to find them? If so where do i look? Thanks and i will order a spare

The pieces are probably in the oil cooler. It is generally located on the back of the starboard head.
