Impeller pump cover

does anyone know what the impellor pump cover is made of from a 1988, SE106 merc, and what would happen not tightening the cover down ?, had a brand new crate motor put in and asked to have the impellor pump changed, 1st time out it seemed to be running warm, after about 100 hours of use over time it overheated and water was in the cylinders, so i inspected the impellor pump area and i could remove the 3 nuts that tighten the pump cover down with my fingers, doesn't look like the cover melted away from the nuts, so i was hoping someone could tell me what material its made of and how much heat it could withstand.

The gen one drives use a plastic housing

When water flow is restricted it will melt everything in the exhaust passages including the water tube and impeller housing

How long was it hot sounds like you split head gaskets or cracked a head. The overheat will void the warranty on the engine…

The impeller outdrive 100 hours .. the no water is the impeller ....today !
so the impeller water is corroded , rubber mess ..

How warm ?if you ran it over 140 or 160 you caused the water in the cylinders

i bought a brand new housing to see if there was any difference in size, there isn't from the bottom seal to the top where the nut tightens down is exactly the same height measuring with a caliper, so the housing did not melt at all, but i believe because i could remove the nuts with just my fingers they forgot to tighten it down by accident, i'm sure they didn't do it on purpose who would?, but the impeller was still like brand new, which i think because it was getting cooled down with water, but also letting in air which would keep the engine from having enough water to keep it from over heating, does that make sense to you guys?

Its possible. I would think with the cover loose water would still be going in the bilge but I've never run with a loose cover nor am I going to.

But it overheated so prolly gotta do the head gaskets and hopefully nothing else.

Guess lesson learned if it runs hot stop.

the cylinders of the spark plugs take it off and the air pressure gauge . starter engine ..... the head engine gasket ... pressure low ..
