Impeller direction

I'm changing the impeller on my 75 6hp and I printed the exploded view of the lower unit off of johnson's website and I'm almost 100% sure I verified the direction the fins bend is as it shows on johnsons diagram. Just hoping someone with a little more knowledge can verify this for me. Also which direction does the shaft actually spin? Clockwise?

Thanks

Studied yourself into a state of confusion, eh? Not saying that's ever happened to me or anything......... ;) Shaft spins clockwise. The fins on your left point point back at you.

Thanks! I tend to over analyze and it gets me to where I don't know which way is up. Parts should be at the house Wednesday, can't wait to get her fired up again!

I've done that before. :) Read something so many times to make sure I got it right. Next thing you know I get simple 2 + 2 directions all messed up, because I was analyzing too much. :) The easiest way for me to remember impeller direction is ... "Spinning Right is Right".

Well thats comforting to know I'm not the only one who tends to delve a bit too deep in the specifics. I'm pretty sure I'm a creature of habit so I'm sure I'll be back with the next question before long.

Thanks again for all your help! Lets hope the impeller and new T-Stat keep her cool!

Re: Impeller direction

While you have the lower unit off make sure you can get a good flow of water through the engine if you connect a water supply to the bottom end of the water tube. With an '84 Evinrude 6hp my recurring problem is that corrosion squeezes the grommet at the top of the water tube (#57 in the parts diagram) over the top of the tube and blocks the flow. It is slightly different to the '75 though.

The water channels in the cylinder head can also get blocked with scale and corrosion but I have not had that happen to me ..... yet.

Re: Impeller direction

an old mech showed me this trick...if you'll install your impellor with dish soap, not only will it go in easier, you can turn the shaft and bubbles will come out of the top if you have it in correctly, it also helps to soften the rubber a little and keep is slick for its initial break in when you first crank it. Thouht it was a pretty good idea. I've done the same thing your talking about, you look, then you look, then you look, then you are bumfuzzled...lol.
