I recently had to put new seals in the upper portion of the stern drive, while taking it apart i needed more parts and in the process took everything apart and forgot which way the impeller was.. It seems to be overheating or getting warmer than it used to @ idle.. is it in incorrectly or is there a new problem.. give a little more rpms temp comes down..

I installed it counter clockwise if you are looking at the top of it..

This is a 19ft renken w/ a 2.5L pt ignition recent tune-up..

Thanks for any help..

Clockwise looking from the top down.

I may be wrong (and I hope someone corrects me if I am), but I'd think the rubber fins would self-orient properly the first time the engine turns the shaft, so I'm not sure how much I'd worry about the direction you put it in.

I agree with SB; it's a variable displacement design, the vanes are almost fully extended at one point in the rotation, they will start to trail there with 1 revolution.
