I know it's been creeping up on us for sometime but it hasn't really hit me in the face till this year.
Every retailer out there now refers to Christmas as "The Holiday". They spend millions to lure me into the store to buy, yet they won't call the holiday what it is.
All their PC BS is doing is turning me off. I'm not all excited about giving my business to companies who insult me and my faith. I am fully aware that a minority of shoppers are celebrating other holidays too but this is just part of the overall strategy to remove God from the equation. I suppose if folks actually celebrated the true meaning of Christmas, Hanukkah, etc. we would spend a lot less money.

I don't know about y'all, but a menora(sp?) next to a Christmas tree won't put me into a seizure.

Doesnt bother me, they are trying to sell to all customers.

I would imagine that a jewish person would feel kinda weird shopping a few years ago. It may have kept them out of some stores.

But it is stupid to eliminate Christmass from their vocabulary. Just as stupid as eliminating the other holliday names.

Ken

That is very sad. Our troop welcomes scouts of all faiths.

The thing I find most annoying is the X-mass tree. WTF is an X-mass tree?

****Ignore above please, else the thread will get locked.****

Fly Rod, SOME (not all) people of non-christian faiths were offended by everyone wishing them a Merry Christmas. It would make some feel uncomfortable.

This might have led some to avoid shopping in certain stores to avoid this.

Just rememeber, a store policy does not define you nor America.

If I were a store owner, I would put up signs for all major faiths, rather than dodge the issue with "Happy Hollidays".

Ken

Fun about it all you want guys... it is the result of the ACLU and the humanistic ilk that support it's efforts to remove every element of Christianity from our society.

Re: I'm turned off by PC retailers (rant)

I am more with KIZ on this one. Private businesses have the right to do anything they want and probably reflect mainstream America or the region that you are in more than we like to admit. It is their business to appeal to as many people as possible and to do so without offending the others. Pretty tough assignment if you ask me.

On the other hand, the attempts to wipe out all religious symbols and history make me crazy. I do not believe that it is a conspiracy, although the ACLU is definitely doing its best. I believe that those who support removal of these symbols etc. absolutely believe they are making the world safer for all people. Remember, they are smarter than the rest of us and will save us from ourselves as long as we get out of the way . . .

If you think this religion cover up deal through far enough, you must eliminate the word Holiday, many holidays, our Calendar (BC/AD), forget about Weekends as they are then meaningless and without structure. This list goes on.

Quoted from some guy who believes in the total elimination of religion from everything. "We should simply forget and eliminate the past as we are much smarter today than all of those who have speculated and postulated about our origins and the need for a moral compass since time began. Those things are not necessary any more because we have now figured out this whole life deal and will gladly tell you how it is if you will put down that stupid book and just listen. If you need to know the difference between right and wrong we will tell you that too as we have determined which rules make sense to us after reviewing all that we have contemplated. There is no need for you to do your own research."

As a recovering Catholic, I can say it doesn't bother me a bit.....I would rather see all religions covered by a blanket statement, during the "Holiday Season".....That way you don't miss any....There will most likely be a day when those of Christian religion will not be the majority in this country. There once was a time known as B.C.(E.).......& most likely, there will be an A.C.E......I think that retailers should be able to sell their wares in whatever way they see fit... :) ...JK

The term "holiday" itself has it's roots in religion as it is derived from "holy-day".

There is just something not right with replacing Christs' name with an X, I'd rather see "Happy Holidays"...maybe it's just me. :(

I guess the Christians won. I remember the "put Christ in Christmas" battle, didn't know it was won. It raged through most of my lifetime (37 years). During that time Christmas was a secular holiday with Santa and snowmen and gifts and a tree. Suddenly, this year Christmas is Christian holiday. I must have missed the victory party.

Don't know what you are smoking this morning, but that statement has absoutely no basis of fact.
