Hello everyone

I have recently bought a bayliner Capri cuddy with I/0 mercruiser 3.0 engine and alpha out drive 1990 model

I found that the breather pipe from the top of the rocker cover to the air filter was blocked with curdled oil and the pipe was bent so far that there wasn't a great space either. Inside the rocker there was emulsified oil too

I have now stripped the engine apart to check the head gasket and there is no obvious signs of wear and no cracks to be seen anywhere

The gasket for the riser and the exhaust manifold didn't look to great can this be letting in the water

Ahhhhhhhh. Where do I go from here

Thanks

Probably a cracked block, see a lot of this this time of year due to improper winterization.

Pull the side lifter covers off, I will bet you see cracks in the cylinder walls.

Thanks for the reply don

I have had a look inside there for cracks but there's none

I did have a bit of emulsified oil though. More to the bow end of the engine

Any more suggestions my friend

How much over the full mark is the oil level.

Since you pulled the head, you have eliminated any possibility of pressure testing to find the leak.

I lost most my oil through the push rod cover we spoke about so I didn't top it up with oil to do tests I case it pushed all the gunk around the engine

An engine that makes short trips AND runs too cool will make a great deal of crud. If you haven't found any cracks, clean things up, button the engine back up, change the oil and filter, check the thermostat (or better yet replace it) and see what happens.

Did you have a lot of milky oil come out of the push rod cover plates when you removed them?? The oil level shouldn't be near that high.
