All languages are being bastardized, the English we speak is certainly not the English once spoken. Chaucer, if he came back to life today may well wished he stayed dead.
The two most bastardized words in our present media and political culture are "Liberal" and "Conservative".

"I'm so done with..."

"It is what it is."

These really drive me crazy.

That being said:D; anytime I can work in an appropriate movie quote is a good time.

BTW- love the Jimmyisms.

Oops, that's another one (BTW and LOL).

Our local University (Lake Superior State) compiles a list of words or phrases that need to be banished:

The 2010 list is here:

http://www.lssu.edu/banished/

They compile it annually, and actively seek nominations for inclusion in next years list.

How about "I'm sick of. . ."? I'm sick of hearing that one.

The one that drives me nuts lately comes up in political discussions: "We the people" as in "I think we the people should receive tax exemptions for being scrapbookers" or "We the people are tired of handicapped parking spaces." You gotta mouse in your pocket? Is he a person?

I have another one.

The misuse of the word "literally." You know, "I was literally dying laughing!" No you weren't, you were figuratively dying. Big difference there folks! :)

I used to hate the young turks in business, who used the term "paradigm shift." Way more often than not, the ones who used the phrase were completely full of crap.

Having said that ......

???

C'mon Jay, cut them some slack.
I have no doubt that they would use that "paradigm shift" to "leverage synergies" so that all "stakeholders" could benefit "moving forward".
That has to be a good thing, right?

"To make long story short"

" I donwanna beat a dead horse, but . . ."

"Better late than never"

" donwanna add insult to injury, but . . "

"Easier said than done"

"Ya follow me?" (as they point their finger at you, wagging it up and down )

"By the skin of my teeth" (that's disgusting, why not by the plaque of my teeth?)

"Been there, done that already"

"Ya gootta think outside the box"

"Let's get the ball rolling"

Whatever!

"He's got me by the short hairs" (I love when a women says this without a clue as to what it means).

"Read my lips"

Awesome! This coffee is awesome! If anyone would take the time to understand what that word really means they would reserve it for acts of God etc. NOT mundane, mildly good things.

Oh and I come from a time when disrespect was a noun not a verb...... AND "forte" was not even shown in the dictionary as for-tay, but always as fort (fort is still always shown as the 1st pronunciation). Ok, I'll stop now.

"for what its worth"
"and blah blah blah"

and I hate the word Audacity. 99.99% of people who use it don't know what it really means.

"That being said....." Just sounds very arrogant. Tells us more ol' wise one!

"Amazing". Seems like anything someone does is/was "amazing". I wish I could live their lives....

Re: I'm sick of hearing overused cliche phrases . . .

I really hate the "It is what it is" line. It's a lame excuse for not being able to fix something or make something better, to my ears. I'm from the "It is what you make of it" school of thought. And I throw a second vote for the "Actually" crutch. My sister uses that one a lot. I'll make statement and right off the bat she'll say "Actually, ........." like what I said was somehow incorrect in her book.......grrr
