I'm Curious- Doers Your Boat Insurance Carrier Do This?

Let me state that I'm not affiliated in any way with BoatUS, but my 5-years with them have been positive. I filed one claim with them at this time last year and it was pretty painless.

What I'm wondering about is this....

BEFORE every potential storm event, I always receive an e-mail reminding me that they'll pay half the cost of a haul-out. They also include instructions for submitting the claim.

The day AFTER Sandy (and Irene last year), I received another e-mail with specific instructions for submitting damage claims, steps to take to limit any damage that occurred (like pickling submerged engines and such), and a reminder not to sign with any salvage company before contacting them.

Now, I've gotten diddly-squat from my homeowner's insurance carrier (Nationwide) or my auto insurance carrier (GEICO) either before or after a major storm, so it got me thinking.

Do other boat insurers send the notifications that BoatUS does?

I have vague re-collections that my boat insurance company will pay for a haul-out prior to a named storm . . . but I don't get no email notification or nothing like that. I think Boat US is more Internet savvy than other insurance companies, because they have a strong boating web presence.

I'm with Allstate - they don't send out anything except for when it's time to pay the premium!
It may depend on whether boat is insured under home policy, or has a separate policy?

Mine's insured through Travelers under its own policy and I get bubkiss from them. Now to be fair to them I'm not sure they have my email address on file. Something I probably should look into at some point.

I am with United Marine and not only did I get those notices, they also sent a list of vendors that might be able to provide those haul out services in my area.

I'm with State Fram - same here. I must say that I went with my homeowner/auto policy insurance company solely for convenience. But the boat almost doubled my umbrella policy premium with State Farm, so I ended up paying 50% more than the BoatUS policy and got less coverage. Needless to say, when I renew, it will be with BoatUS.
