They say that vinyl is better because there are subtle sounds that digital remove
Actually, vinyl introduces sounds that were never there. Vinyl is very inaccurate.

I think one of the reasons vinyl got the following is because they ran them through tube amps. Tube amps have a different sound than transistor amps.

Vinyl was still around a long time after solid state amps arrived on the scene. CDs didn't really hit until 1990 or so.

But how many of the diehards kept their vinyl and tubes while others switched to 8 track and then cassette?

A friend gave me a bunch of older VHS kid movies for my son. Most of them didn't work. I ended up tossing them along with my VCR. I don't think they hold up well at all. I'd toss 'em (or offer them up on CL for free so some other hoarder can have at 'em ;))

bruce, I may have to look into this Amazon.com Music Trade-In My CD's have been in a bin for YEARS just sitting there. I ripped the songs I wanted off of them a long time ago.

I'll raise my hand. Owned a only handful of 8-tracks and cassette tapes in my life time.

Longtime vinyl collector. Over 2k vinyls. Most collectors items. Lots of promotional, demo and first release items. Numerous boot-legged, never released to the public recordings.

Still use my luxman turntable on a regular basis. Macintosh amps (2 - mono tube and 1 - solid state stereo amps)and pre-amp. A pair is Bose 901 series 2 and a pair of definitive technologies speakers.

Yep...that's it. My GF sent in anything that she could get $0.50 or more on and the rest she gave to charity. I think she netted around $300. All my CD's are pretty much converted to digital formats already.

Back in 2002, my friend gave me a hard drive to copy that came from a radio station. 250GB of songs up to 2002 which included every top 100 song and many albums from the 50's to 2002. Haven't found a song yet from before 2002 that wasn't on there.

Just build another shed out back ... you got one for the boat and fishing supplies, now build one for the VHS and Cassette tapes. You got the room, you got the time, just do it! LOL! Isn't that the type of encouragement you needed ...:eek::D

bruceb58, sounds like a good deal transferring them to digital. But make very sure you have copied those digital savings too. A few copies is the only way to make sure you don't loose then in the event of hard disk crash or damage... That would stink big time! :faint2:

The hoard really isn't that large. If I took everything off the organized shelves and boxed it up it would probably not even fill up a broom closet. But I like the way you think.

Re: I'm a hoarder

The wife and I are coming to the cross road in our life where we need to throw alot of crap out of the house. We've got 600 vhs tapes, probally haven't watched 1 in the last 3 years, thing is I can't get her to part with any of them. For the matter I can't get her to throw anything out. I bet she has every purse since the day we got hitched in 74.

I vote to toss. utube is a great place to go, and you don't have all the clutter.

Any of those tapes actually still work? Even 10 years ago when we got rid of our last VCR, the stuff we had recorded was going fuzzy or gone completely.

I don't know if they work or not. Haven't even watched any of them in 20 years.:embarassed:

Another bookcase has over 300 audio cassette tapes I recorded off air from a local Bluegrass music station. I love bluegrass music. Some of those tapes contain personal messages from the DJ to me or my family dedicating a song.
