I just got my stickers from the dnr in illinois in the mail. This is the first time it's being registered in IL.There are no number stickers, only the 1 orange state sticker with the number in the middle. I didn't know if I had to get the number stickers or if they get mailed seperately. I thought you needed to display the numbers and the sticker. I called the dnr and they said that all I needed was the one state sticker, no numbers.
Is this true now?
Does anyone know how true this is?
Thanks

You have to source the numbers/letters yourself.

3" tall or taller, contrasting colors.

you should have gotten a card with that sticker that tells you how they need to be put on with the spacing and everything.

Never heard of any states allowing no numbers, but I guess it’s possible.
Assuming you need them, you have 2 choices…go to your local hardware and buy numbers/letters and slap them on yourself. Or, go to your local sign maker and have a one piece number made up. Only a few dollars more, but it will come properly spaced and definitely will look better than individual numbers

Only time no numbers are needed are the "documented boats" that registered thru the CG. But they have their own set of number display rules.

Yup... I'm in Illinois, too. The card with your registration should have instructions, but the booklet in the link from @tpenfield shows it, too.

I don't think Illinois sends out reminder notices to renew your reg anymore, so you need to make sure you remember in a couple years to renew.

if you want to keep the dnr off your ask, make it look like this. no fancy fonts and easy to read.
