Yeah, that's a good one! (As I look at the picture in your signature line of a boat, uncovered, on the trailer, outside! ;) )

My favorite ill informed myth: HP is meaningless and just a calculated number based on torque, torque is the only measurement that matters.

Fact 1: My 2001 Kawasaki ZX9R motorcycle makes 70 ft-lbs of peak torque.

Fact 2: I can easily apply 210 ft-lbs of torque to a bolt using my own strength to pull on a torque wrench.

The obvious conclusion: I am clearly at least three times more powerful than my motorcycle.

Uhhhh...Hp is a measurement based on torque. What's the myth? I agree HP is not meaningless.

Since you need torque along with RPM to calculate HP, it does kinda matter.

I would love to see you apply 210 ft lb of torque with the radius of the crankshaft of the engine you are comparing yourself to. Personally, I can apply 1000 ft lbs of torque given a lever long enough.

Fact 1: You don't understand the meaning of torque. :)

As I stated, it's my "favorite ill informed myth". I know it's incorrect and I know I'm not 3 times more powerful than my bike...

Fact #1 Obviously, I couldn't figure out what you were trying to say!

non-sequitur...

Come on, man! First it was proper nautical terminology, now this stuff? Are you trying to teach us something? Or are you just smiling that I have to go to dictionary.com to look up non-sequitur? ;)

Did you know that an automotive airbag deployment is about the same time as it takes for the dragsters wheels to get 8,000 horsepower ???

Do dragsters have airbags :noidea: Ever hear a race car driver getting interviewed? DEFINITE airbag... LOL

Are all car engines more powerful than boat engines ??? Well I think they HAVE to be after reading that .... LOL

all in good fun of course.......

No, not powerful, able to apply 3 times more force.

The question is, can you apply that force while spinning your arm at 11,000rpm? If so, then (and only then) are you 3 times more powerful than your bike engine...

Re: ill informed boat knowledge

Figured I would start this thread because I see allot of people saying things that are just wrong.

Fuel injection produces more HP than carburetor
4.3MPI puts out 220HP VS 4.3TKS puts out 190HP
5.0MPI puts out 260HP VS 5.0TKS puts out 220HP
5.7MPI puts out 300HP VS 5.7TKS puts out 250H

Dual prop drives are slower not faster than single prop

SS is more durable then aluminium

When going from aluminium to SS go down a pitch
When going from three blade prop to 4 blade prop go down a pitch
I don't have any particular problem with any of these statements. If taken on face value, they are all true, with the possible exception of the dual prop thing. :)

If I could move my arm at 11,0000rpm I'd never leave the house.

Re: ill informed boat knowledge

It is torque that is meaningless without a specified rpm. But torque at a specified rpm turns out to be horsepower, which, according to some, is also meaningless.

How about displacement? Is that meaningless, too?

Seems to me that know-it-all (read:"informed") boat knowledge is what is meaningless.

Grade 8 physics, guys.

I love my B3, pulls like a freight train and it just looks so damn sexy when it's on the trailer. :)

Hmmm..well the 3.0MPI puts out 135HP vs the 3.0TKS puts out 135HP. So fuel injection does not always produce more HP..
